Jan - 2003

Pat Smedsrud, outreach coordinator and rehab manager for Luverne Community Hospital, stands with Deanna Pick near the iMac computer that ran Rx Box® Clinician during beta testing. They used their copy of Rx Box® Clinician primarily to print home programs and as another means of demonstrating Mulligan techniques to their patients.

Rx Box® applications recently concluded an extensive clinical testing period. The intent was to gather information regarding usability and clinical functionality so as to determine whether changes or bug fixes were necessary prior to a commercial release. We are pleased to report that both applications (Rx Box® Patient and Rx Box® Clinician) exceeded expectations and proceeded to the next phase of development with only minor tweaks necessitated by the testing.

Four outpatient physical therapy clinics located in the Midwest United States were selected as test sites. They are: 1) Center for Muscle & Joint Therapy, Superior, WI, 2) Center Therapy, Duluth, MN, 3) Luverne Community Hospital, Luverne, MN, and 4) St. Mary’s Hospital Superior, Superior, WI. Each site was responsible for incorporating use of the applications into its daily clinical routine. Any patient that received a disc or printed handout (from Rx Box® Clinician) was asked to complete a survey form. Therapists recorded daily notes germane to the testing and submitted exit surveys that summarized their experience.

Comments from patients regarding their experience with Rx Box®:

“ It makes doing the exercises easy, I see exactly what to do.”
“ Having live video instruction to follow is great!”
“ I like being able to follow with the video.”
“ This thing is sure quick and easy!”
“ I think this is neat!”
“ This should make me do them right.”
“ This really helped improve the motion in my neck.”
“ I would pay $20 an exercise for this.”
“ I could watch the video to make sure I was doing it right.”

What therapists had to say:

“ This {Rx Box® Clinician} will decrease the number of treatment sessions”

“ I had them {patients} perform the exercises along with the video here at the clinic, and they then felt very comfortable with their ability to perform the exercises at home.”

“ We feel it {Rx Box® Patient} should be provided as a cost of treatment due to the great results that are attained when the patient is matched appropriately with the correct exercise.”

“I liked having a demo right on hand that allowed us to demonstrate {exercises and/or Rx Box} and issue the programs fast.”

“This is a good, visual educational tool that the patient can take home.”

“ Rx Box® Clinician was easy to operate. I like the whole dynamic of video instead of paper and it provided a great review of the exercises.”
